Apple has officially made the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus smartphones available to purchase. Both features a water-resistant body, a new force-touch home button, a cutting edge A10 Fusion chip, a longer battery life, doubled storage and the removal of the headphone jack.
Although the iPhone 7 doesn’t have significant changes, it is still an attractive phone because its size is more manageable. However, if you are really looking for a more high-end smartphone, the bigger iPhone 7 Plus should be your choice. It features a new design with dual-lens cameras, one wide-angle and one telephoto lens. Besides, you will need to choose among color options including Black, Gold, Rose Gold, Silver, Jet Black and (PRODUCT) RED special edition.
That’s not the only choice you have to make. Just like previous years, there are some different models released for different carriers and countries around the world. Therefore, before ordering online or hitting the stores, you should check them out carefully, or your phone might not function properly.
At the moment, we have the following model numbers: A1660, A1661, A1778, A1784, A1779, A1785, A1780, A1786. As Apple uses modem chips from the 2 different manufacturers, which are Intel and Qualcomm, some of the models can’t perform well on a specific carrier network. Notice that the difference between the Intel and Qualcomm modem is quite significant.
You can quickly check which one you get by looking at the box or the back of your iPhone. There are some notable changes as compared to model numbers released for iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Unfortunately, none of them covers the new LTE band 66 (AWS-3) used by Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile.
Now, let’s see the differences among those iPhone models.

Hello, I can tell you I am pretty confused with all this new information. Read almost all comments and still not sure about my situation. I am about to buy a (used) Iphone in Japan. Firstly, given that it is sim-free, will it work back in Greece and Turkey, and if yes with full LTE speed? Secondly, if the phone is provider locked will it be possible to unlock while being back in Greece (or Turkey again). Just to note, from my research for unlocking the provider lock here in Japan the person who bought it needs to break the lock by paying a small amount, but in my case not possible. Please, would appreciate some heeelp :)

Hi, its good informative discussion. Its clear that model A1661, being Qualcomm processor covers more bands than its counterpart A1784 with Intel processor. Both the models have same price and equally popular, please let me know whether there is any difference in their performances, if so which is better.

Hi, I want to buy a refurbished iPhone 7 Plus that works worldwide. I will not be using an American carrier. What model do I want?
Also, what does “SIM free” mean? Does it mean both CDMA and GSM modem chips on board and unlocked? Does it mean you don’t need SIM card in the US? Does SIM free mean “unlocked”? I seem to be the only person in the world that doesn’t understand this.
Thank you. You have written the only article I can find with answers. Apple prefers to leave us confused.
