Apple has officially made the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus smartphones available to purchase. Both features a water-resistant body, a new force-touch home button, a cutting edge A10 Fusion chip, a longer battery life, doubled storage and the removal of the headphone jack.
Although the iPhone 7 doesn’t have significant changes, it is still an attractive phone because its size is more manageable. However, if you are really looking for a more high-end smartphone, the bigger iPhone 7 Plus should be your choice. It features a new design with dual-lens cameras, one wide-angle and one telephoto lens. Besides, you will need to choose among color options including Black, Gold, Rose Gold, Silver, Jet Black and (PRODUCT) RED special edition.
That’s not the only choice you have to make. Just like previous years, there are some different models released for different carriers and countries around the world. Therefore, before ordering online or hitting the stores, you should check them out carefully, or your phone might not function properly.
At the moment, we have the following model numbers: A1660, A1661, A1778, A1784, A1779, A1785, A1780, A1786. As Apple uses modem chips from the 2 different manufacturers, which are Intel and Qualcomm, some of the models can’t perform well on a specific carrier network. Notice that the difference between the Intel and Qualcomm modem is quite significant.
You can quickly check which one you get by looking at the box or the back of your iPhone. There are some notable changes as compared to model numbers released for iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Unfortunately, none of them covers the new LTE band 66 (AWS-3) used by Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile.
Now, let’s see the differences among those iPhone models.

Hi,
First of all thank you for the very informative article.
I just got an iPhone 7 model A1660 in Dubai. But I live in indonesia and india. My local operator in indonesia operates on 900 and 1800 MHz.
Will I be able to use the 4G network there on this phone. ????
All my friends who got their iPhone 7 from Singapore have model A1778
I am asking because I had got an iPhone 5 before but cannot use it on 4G in indonesia or India.
Please guide.

Hello,
I’m an Indian staying in China for now and want to buy an iPhone7plus here. The model number they are selling in China Apple Stores is A1784 – and they said it is internationally unlocked. Will this model number work in Indian Cellular networks for 4G LTE services too? I’m confused because in your article, it is mentioned that A1661 is the global phone and not the A1784 — for iPhone 7 plus. Please help.

BestBuy can not sell SIM-Free iPhones. There is something called “US Reseller Flex Policy” which doesn’t allow them too (Google it to read more). Only Apple Store and Carrier Stores (AT&T, Verizon etc…) can sell SIM-Free iPhones. You are either lied about it by BestBuy or the salesman may not knew about this.

Here are the numbers on the rose gold iphone 7 plus, 128gb? The phone says: Capacity 115.2 gb, 84.11 available. It’s a model A1661, Region Format: China.
ID: BCG-E3087A, Model phone under settings: MNRJ2CH/A, ON the box: Part NO: MN9H2LL/A, For the record. The serial number on the box doesn’t match
the serial number shown in settings. SO what is this ? Can I use it in the states? Is it a blackmarket junk? Giant ipod? Tried ATT, nothing, straighttalk with ATT
sim, Nothing. What’s this thing worth? Can it be fixed to work ?
Thanks man.

Hi,
I have purchased iPhone 7 from Best Buy USA by paying full price and model no is MN8M2LL/A and confirmed about it’s working in India, while I was on business trip. After coming back to India, when I unpacked the phone and inserted india SIM it’s giving me SIM NOT SUPPORTED “The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the actication policy”, so this phones seems to be locked by carrier. Can you please help me on that.
Regards
Akshay
Stacie Smith says
This is a Factory Unlocked model but sometime it can locked to a carrier, you should have been confirmed its unlocking by opening its box and using Indian Sim, Now you should unlock it by sending its IMEI to Unlocking Company.
