This is a special year for Apple since they released 3 iPhone versions to celebrate the 10-year anniversary. Apart from the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, we also have the iPhone X with some radical changes and said to be the future of smartphone.
However, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are still attractive options since the iPhone X is out of budget of most average consumers. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus has a similar design as the previous iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. You can only distinguish between the 2 generations by looking at the back; Apple has replaced an all-aluminum body with a glass back cover. The change in materials doesn’t affect its water and dust resistance, moreover, it enables the wireless charging feature on iPhone for the first time.
In terms of hardware, iPhone 8 has the same LED-backlit IPS LCD displays, 12MP camera sensors, and a home button with Touch ID. Some major upgrades include the new A11 Bionic processor and wired fast charging (50% charge in 30 minutes). It originally came with just the 64GB and 256GB storage option, however, Apple discontinued the 256GB version and replaced with 128GB version in September 2019.
Buy Factory-Unlocked iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus on Amazon
Similar to previous years, the iPhone 8 versions will come in some different model numbers. Specifically, we have the iPhone 8 A1863, A1905, and 1906, and the iPhone 8 Plus A1864, A1897, and A1898. Apple uses modem chips from different manufacturers (Intel and Qualcomm), so some iPhone models won’t support CDMA networks; you should check the supported networks below carefully before ordering the new phone. Now, let’s check out all the differences.

Hello. I see only two models for the Xmax. I’m hoping this means that they are all essentially unlocked. Your carrier will insert their card if you upgrade but they can basically be used on any network. Are my assumptions correct?
Robert says
There is an omission in the “U.S. supported carrier” table for the model number A1863. Both AT&T and T-Mobile are also supported carriers (in addition to the others) in the U.S., as the A1863 has both CDMA and GSM capability. This omission in the “U.S. supported carrier” table falsely suggests that the A1863 is GSM-only.
Tuan Do says
Hi Robert,
That table is not supported carriers, it just shows the countries and carriers of that model number. You can’t buy the A1863 from AT&T and T-Mobile.

I bought an iPhone on eBay that said it was a 64 GB Verizon phone which should have been MQ722LL/A, but what they send me was a Sprint phone number
MQ752LL/A.
I think Verizon is a better phone than Sprint, but what’s the difference? Should I ask for a partial refund? I purposely purchased a Verizon phone because Verizon said they don’t lock their phones like other companies and I knew I could use a Verizon phone on T-Mobile. You can still use a Sprint phone on T-Mobile does T-Mobile bought Sprint. But if I change carriers I may be losing out. It’s a A1863 Tim Thanks
PF says
I had a Verizon new when I changed net works and it was lock the text goes out from a secondary number I want to erase every thing on it and start over from a factory setting with out any of the Verizon soft ware and now have two phones long story the other is a a1906 256 it works great and has better signal most places. It came unlock with no carrier apps.
What I have seen is that carrier software apps do not transfer to different carriers with out problems I hope my problem help you . 🤞 good luck

I have a iphone 8 plus which I purchased with ATT in March. Model is A1897/MQ8W2LL/A. I was told by Verizon that I would be able to use this with Verizon. I had the phone unlocked by ATT. Was I lied to – will this phone not work with Verizon. Will I be limited. Any help would be appreciated.
Kevin says
As far As I know Verizon is starting to use GSM bands, so you’ll be good. Thats why it can be used. Search up their Cellular Bands.

If I buy an A1864, Will I be able to use it on GSM networks in Europe?
Beyza Irem Atabey says
Hi, I want to buy an IPhone 8 Plus from the US and I want to use it in Turkey. Since I won’t be able to use the specific sim card phones, the only option is to buy a sim-free phone. Do you know if the sim-free one has international warranty? Because I can’t come to the US to just to fix it.

Which model of the iPhone 8 plus is factory unlocked and will work with any carrier worldwide?

Hallo und guten Tag,
was ist hier der Unterschied bei den Geräten “iPhone8 64GB Space Gray – Modell A 1905” mit der Part No.: MQ6G2ZD/A + MQ6G2CN/A?
Im Voraus vielen Dank.
Peter says
I have an iPhone 8 A1863 that I bought unlocked from Apple. I initially used H2O carrier, which is good in the US but no international roaming. I recently switched to T-Mobile which allows international roaming. However roaming did not work (Canada and Peru) and I kept getting an error that I didn’t have an international roaming subscription. After many many hours with T-Mobile and Apple, and trying many fixes, what finally worked was a factory reset as a new phone and MANUALLY reloading apps to clear residual settings (I presume with H2O) that were blocking roaming. At one point T-Mobile and Apple were even telling me that I needed the A1905 model for these countries instead of the A1863. But that didn’t make sense since the A1863 covers all the bands of A1905 plus CDMA. Just a watch out for those that may run into the same problem.

Wow, this is great information! Thank you!
I am moving to an iPhone. I live in a fairly remote area and though I have no trouble with my LG V10, my husband has trouble with reception on his old iPhone. Please tell me if one of these is better for signal reception than the other: iPhone Xr or iPhone 8 plus.
I will use this phone on the T-Mobile service, but am planning to purchase an unlocked, SIM free phone. Is the Qualcom modem still “better” than the Intel for signal reception? Thank you for your help.

It’s the Japanese model so it’s only directly available in Japan, and it has a bunch of unique restrictions to comply with the Japanese market. It’s also often difficult to service outside Japan due to supply-chain and parts restrictions

Hey I was wondering if a specific version of the iPhone 8 Plus has the feature of turning off the camera shutter sound, because I know that some iPhones can’t turn it off even on silent mode. (Because of reasons for being sold in Korea and Japan). When buying a iphone how would I know that it would be able to turn off the camera shutter sound. Thanks
