This is a special year for Apple since they released 3 iPhone versions to celebrate the 10-year anniversary. Apart from the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, we also have the iPhone X with some radical changes and said to be the future of smartphone.
However, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are still attractive options since the iPhone X is out of budget of most average consumers. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus has a similar design as the previous iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. You can only distinguish between the 2 generations by looking at the back; Apple has replaced an all-aluminum body with a glass back cover. The change in materials doesn’t affect its water and dust resistance, moreover, it enables the wireless charging feature on iPhone for the first time.
In terms of hardware, iPhone 8 has the same LED-backlit IPS LCD displays, 12MP camera sensors, and a home button with Touch ID. Some major upgrades include the new A11 Bionic processor and wired fast charging (50% charge in 30 minutes). It originally came with just the 64GB and 256GB storage option, however, Apple discontinued the 256GB version and replaced with 128GB version in September 2019.

Similar to previous years, the iPhone 8 versions will come in some different model numbers. Specifically, we have the iPhone 8 A1863, A1905, and 1906, and the iPhone 8 Plus A1864, A1897, and A1898. Apple uses modem chips from different manufacturers (Intel and Qualcomm), so some iPhone models won’t support CDMA networks; you should check the supported networks below carefully before ordering the new phone. Now, let’s check out all the differences.

I also bought an iPhone 8 plus (Model MRT72LL/A A1862) from Best Buy in the US. They told me it was already unlocked and I could use my sim from the Philippines. When I was in the US, I tried using my dad’s AT&T sim and it worked but when I got home to the Philippines, I tried inserting 2 different sims from the Philippines, it kept on saying “Sim Not Valid.” I still haven’t figured out what the solution is.

I am trying to establish if the iPhone 8 A1863 (China version) bought from the Apple Store in HK also work in the UK. Basically want a phone that will work with China Telecom and also in the UK. The store is saying it won’t, but it looks to me as if for 4G it just needs to support FDD Band 20 for 4G in the UK. Are their differences between FDD Band 20’s in different countries?
(I am told this is a GSM not CDMA version… but I think the UK is GSM isn’t it? I though China Telecom might need CDMA)
Oli says
Update on my question. I think I know the answer(s) but not tested yet. So please correct this if it is wrong.
All UK carriers support FDD Band 20 (800 MHz) so an unlocked A1863 from the Apple store will work with all UK carriers.
Some UK carriers support other bands as well, particularly in cities. I haven’t checked whether they are supported by the A1863 (O2 only uses Band 20 for 4G)
So basically the A1863 should work in the UK but in some cases/places may not be as fast as a UK model.
China Telecom compatibility requires the CDMA version A1863 which is only available from them. Apple Store sells the GSM version.
(I don’t know if the China Telecom CDMA version is locked or not – presumably open for GSM?)
CDMA version presumably comes with Qualcomm modem which is thought to be superior to the Intel one.
(My friend bought the phone from the Apple Store)

Hi everyone, for those who want to use their iPhone in middle east or buy one, I gotta say that these part numbers function perfectly in this region : (A1901- A1905 – A1863 – A1897 – A1864- A1660 -A1661- A1633 – A1688 -A1865) , I have tested all these models with different operators and there was no problem with services and network antenna , but I have no clue about other part numbers. cheers!

Hello. I just bought an iphone 8 plus from a third party owner who claims he got the phone from verizon as a replacement. My question is, will this phone work for international use? So if you could please answe you would be helping me big time, to sell this phone while Im still in the US. Thanks
