As we all expect at this time every year, the new iPhones have arrived and again we get two new phones in 2015, the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.
Both of the models features significant upgrades like 3D Touch, 12MP iSight camera, 4K video recording, faster CPU and GPU performance. The phones were launched with the 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB storage options but the 16GB and 64GB were discontinued and replaced by the 32GB option since 2016. You must be excited about the launch and want to get hands on the phone as soon as possible. However, you should be careful because your new iPhone might not be compatible with your carrier.
The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus come in 8 models, including A1633, A1634, A1687, A1688, A1699, A1700, A1690, and A1691, and they have different cellular connectivity. Fortunately, the number of model numbers is the same as iPhone 6 last year and Apple also covers 3 more LTE bands (23 as compared to 20 bands on iPhone 6). If you are on T-Mobile, you will see a boost in LTE signal, especially when you are inside buildings, because all new models include support for LTE band 12 (700MHz spectrum). AT&T customers will also notice a better experience as some models support the new LTE band 30. The new generation also features LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) which supports download speed of 300Mbps and Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE).
Now, let’s take a look at the different model numbers.

Hi Tuan Do,
thank you for your wonderful article!
My question is: I live in the UK and my friend lives in Italy. We are both travelers and about to buy a 6S each (me 128GB, her 64GB). Given from what I have read that the A1633 is the ultimate global phone as it has the band 30, is it really worth having an American friend of mine buying both phones SIM-free in US?
Also because after the exchange rate they appear to be dramatically cheaper over there = £508 vs £614 (in UK) for the 64GB for example.
Also, how can I ensure they are going to be exactly UNLOCKED and SIM-free, and they are definitely A1633?
Online purchasing would be better as we would have the financing option.
What do you recommend?
Thank you very much!
Alessio

I was following the directions apple gave me to restore it (powering the iphone off and holdong the home button, etc.) and after several tries of restoring it, on the last time, i powered it off and now it wont turn back on. ive tried holding down the power button and the home button (at the same time and individually), and plugging it in to the computer that ive previously been using to restore it. Can someone please tell me how i can turn on my iphone so i can continue to restore it?? Anything would be very appreciated :)

I have a 6S model #A1688. (mKQN2ZD/A). Purchased in Germany and activating via Verizon in US. Everything is working accept Verizon for phone calls. I’ve been to Verizon for assisance twice and had 3 different SIM’s and still no phone. It shows activated on Verizon’s side. If phone sits dormant and I touch it, it shows Verizon in upper left for about 5-10 seconds than goes to no service. Any ideas on what to try next? Also worked with Apple and all good there.

Hi CStevenson – I have the exact same problem with the same model purchased in Australia with a Verizon SIM. It shows as activated, it will show Verizon initially, but then goes to no services. After many hours with Verizon (and Apple), Verizon maintain it is not CDMA compatible despite it being so in the specs and Apple US Stores maintain I need to go back to the reseller in Australia (I purchased it from the airport duty free). Did you end up getting yours working and, if so, would you mind sharing how? My only option right now seems to be to change carriers. Many thanks!
