Great news for people who are confused with different model numbers of the new iPhone 7 / 7 Plus. Apple is officially selling the SIM-Free editions for both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in the US.
Moreover, the models are the most comprehensive ones you can buy in the States. Specifically, the model number for the sim-free iPhone 7 is A1660 and for the iPhone 7 Plus is A1661. The phones are equipped with the Qualcomm MDM9645M X12 modem chipset, that means it will work on both GSM and CDMA carriers. So you can easily switch between AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint easily.
The sim-free versions are released a few weeks after the carrier versions but this is still an early release a compared to previous years. You can order it online at the moment but you will still need to wait a few weeks to receive it.
This has now become the best choice for people who want an unlocked phone to use on any carrier, who travel overseas or tourists who want to use the iPhone 7 in their home country. The phone doesn’t need to be activated in the US, you just bring home your sealed phone, pop in your SIM card and activate it anywhere in the world.
Earlier, the best choice for an unlocked iPhone is the Verizon or T-Mobile version. However, the Verizon iPhone is not easy to buy at Apple Store while the T-Mobile versions (A1784 and A1778) is compatible with GSM networks only.
The SIM-Free iPhone 7 has the same price as when you pay full price. You will need to cash out at least $649 and $769 for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus respectively.
