During the last year, there have been numerous choices for consumers who want to buy a robot vacuum with self-emptying station. I feel so fortunate when I could review a bunch of them to help you pick the best ones. yeedi is not a new brand for me since I tested their K650 not long ago. The yeedi Vac Station is a more expensive option and it is so different from recent vacuums I’ve used.
Disclosure: We received the vacuum in exchange for the review; We spent a few weeks testing it to make sure the review is honest and unbiased.
Unboxing & Testing
Features & Performance
The yeedi Vacuum Station is super easy to set up as you can see in the video above. Basically, you will just need to put 2 pieces of the station together, plug in the power cord, and it is ready to use. Inside the box, you can also find an extra dust bag and a plastic mat. I’m very surprised that yeedi didn’t ignore small details like this. When I use other 2-in-1 robot vacuums (vacuuming + mopping), I always had to remove the wet mop immediately after each cleaning session, otherwise, it would easily damage my wood floor. The simple mat can protect my floor when I forget removing the mop, which happens very often.
You can start using the vacuum right away but it is highly recommend to set it up with the yeedi app to get access to all advanced features. Since it doesn’t come with a remote control, I love using my Google Nest Hub to control the yeedi. I can start vacuuming or send it back to the dock without using the app. The robot is also compatible with Amazon Alexa. To adjust suction power, set schedules, or clean a specific room, you will need to use the app.
After each cleaning session, the yeedi will automatically return to the station and all the dust inside the dust bin will be sucked up to a dust bag in the station. Unlike some other robots, the yeedi doesn’t suck up the dirt through the roller brush; Instead, there are two holes on the dustbin and corresponding openings on the bottom of the robot and the station. This self-emptying mechanism works pretty well and doesn’t make the main brush dirty.
If you use the vacuum just a few times a week, you will just need to replace the dust bag after 3-4 weeks. In case you keep your house clean and tidy, a dust bag could last even longer. At the moment, I haven’t seen replacement bags available on Amazon yet but they should be listed soon after the official launch.
The vacuum features a 3,000Pa maximum suction power but I rarely set it at the maximum. The normal suction setting is more than enough for everyday vacuuming. It is equipped with a carpet sensor, so the suction is boosted automatically when it detect carpets.
According to the manufacturer, the vacuum has a large 5,200mAh battery that could last up to 200 minutes of runtime. In my test, a full cleaning session of my floor takes about 45 minutes and the battery level still stays at around 50%. Therefore, I believe the robot could easily clean a whole floor of your house in a single charge.
Notably, the robot uses vSLAM (visual simultaneous localisation and mapping) instead of LiDAR for navigation. The technology is not new and it is actually being used on some high-end iRobot Roomba vacuums. It uses an upward-facing camera to detect ceiling, walls, and then create a map of your floor plan. Obviously, the camera can’t be as fast and accurate as laser but its performance is still acceptable. After two full cleaning sessions, the robot created a map in the yeedi app which is quite accurate. Afterwards, it vacuums my floor much faster as compared to the first few usages.
Conclusion
Pros
- Good battery runtime
- Impressive suction power
- Self-emptying station works really well
- App control
Cons
- vSLAM technology is slower and less accurate
The yeedi Vac Station has the original price tag of $499 and during the launch campaign, you can receive $100 coupon and moreover, the first 50 Amazon orders will get an extra $199 gift card. The yeedi is absolutely a great deal at this price, considering the fact that similar products from iRobot could cost upward of $700.
