The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 was officially announced during the Unpacked event in New York City. The Note 9 doesn’t have any breakthrough technology but it comes with a hefty price tag starting from $999 for the unlocked version.
In terms of design, we don’t see any significant change apart from the fingerprint scanner placement, slightly slimmer bezels, larger screen, and more color options. The hardware of the Note 9 is improved in almost every aspect; It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 or Samsung Exynos 9810 processor, a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display, an all-day battery with the capacity of 4,000mAh, up to 512GB of internal storage and 8GB of RAM. Notably, it still comes with a microSD card slot, so the storage can be expanded up to 1TB.
The dual rear cameras include a 12MP camera with a wide-angle lens, OIS, f/1.5 and f/2.4 apertures and a 12MP camera with a telephoto lens and f/2.4 aperture. The setup is similar to what we saw in the Galaxy S9 Plus but Samsung makes the cameras more intelligent with AI-based scene detection and defect detection features.
The S-Pen also has an important upgrade as it has a built-in battery and Bluetooth LE now. We can use the S-Pen as a remote control for the Note 9, for instance, we can take photos remotely, control slides, control music playback, launch apps, and many more.
The Galaxy Note 9 phones are manufactured in Vietnam, China, and Korea. The model number of the Note 9 is SM-N960 and Samsung adds some suffixes to distinguish between models released for different carriers and countries. For instance, we have some model numbers like SM-N9600, SM-N9608, SM-N960D, SM-N960J, SM-N960U, SM-N960U1, SM-N960W, SM-N960XC, SM-N960XU, SM-N960F, SM-N960N, SM-N960X, or SM-N960XN. They do not only differ in chipsets but also in cellular bands. Let’s check them out.

I am a T-mobile user. However, I travel internally often, especially to China where TDD LTE band 38,39,40,41 are used. Could you confirm the supported LTE bands of the T-mobile version of the Note 9? It seems to have so much less that the unlocked version, and TDD LTE 38-41 isn’t listed. Why? I could have just buy the unlocked version except that T-Mobile would allow $250 credit for my old Note 4.
Thank you so much!

Hello,
I’m looking to buy a Note 9, but due to my budget I’m looking on Amazon and Ebay. I’m looking for Factory Unlocked (not branded or carrier bloatware).
My problem is that a lot of sellers on Amazon and Ebay list the model number N960U, but sometimes it’s a carrier branded version, sometimes it’s a true Factory unlocked version…
It seams the model N960U is listed with (both), a few carriers, AS WELL as Factory Unlocked. (I assume the ‘U’ stands for U.S.?)
What I am asking for, (if you don’t mind), is please comfirm that the number N960U is used by both carriers as well as Factory Unlocked? And if there is any more information you could tell me that might help.
Thank You.

Is there a dual sim version which works in US + Canada ? (I am guessing it has to be snapdragon)
CJ says
No there is no version with dual SIM and snapdragon. The dual SIM models are only available with exynos chipset. The would work on the US but only with GSM carriers such as AT&T or T-MOBILE, and coverage may be somewhat limited since the bands on this phone are geared more toward Asia, South America, and parts of Europe where all carriers are GSM. The dual SIM models do not work on CDMA bands, so they will not work on Verizon or Sprint.

Any idea? Thanks!

Hi everyone
I would like to buy a model samsung note 9 sm-9600 or note 9 sm-960FD (Dual sim both versions). Please tell me which one is better choice for T-mobile in USA?
I also wanted to buy the Huawei Mate 20 pro, but it was bad news with defective screens. (The mate 20 pro also does not have the band B66)
is anyone able to confirm that note 9 (the above models) has a B66 frequency bands?
(I can not see B66 on this website)
What gives exactly band B66 in T-mobile in usa for normal user? is this frequency important?
Thank you :)

I need your opinion guys & gals! I bought a Note 9 model- SM-N9600 from Ebay it’s from China unlocked with 512GB for the price of $850, it’s the 8GB ram one. Did I mess up? Should I keep it? Or return it? The phone is legit and already received it. I don’t know much about phone technology…my first and only smart phone is my Galaxy S5 which I still have.I’m really concerned. I was extremely excited because I thought I got a great deal but now I’m unsure and don’t know what to do! Any help is much appreciated!

Can somebody help me to know if the versions N960FD and N9600 work in Europe and UK, and if they are dual SIM?
Ray says
N9600 is China-specific? I asked a eBay seller, and he/she claimed it was not China version.
My concern is this model may not support Google Pay (the NFC payment app) if used in China. Anyone tried it? Thanks.

Hi,
I am planning on getting the Note 9 in lavender colour as Australia does not have them here. Can anyone direct me to the right model that can be used in Australia? I have looked at N9600 and N960FD which both come from China. Is there any differences with the international version compared to AU and US version?
Would NFC and Google play work of purchased from China in Australia?
Thanks

I have a SM-N960U1 (USA unlocked, single SIM/microSD tray) version.
My question is: if I buy a dual SIM tray for the note 9 from Amazon and insert it into MY version with 2 SIM cards in that tray, will the software recognize the second SIM card?
I feel like I’ve seen this done on a few YouTube videos, however, they never tell what model of note 9 they are using.
Someone please advise if this is possible.
Thank you…
JSteale says
No. The Dual Sim is part of the phone not the tray. When you use dual sim you cannot use micro sd card because that is where you put the 2nd sim. The dual sim phone recognizes the whether it is sim card or micro sd card. The only dual sim note 9 is SM-N960F/DS or SM-N960FD Duos.
