The two Samsung flagships, Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus, were announced at MWC 2018 in Barcelona. Samsung had a wonderful year with the Galaxy S8, S8 Plus, and Note 8, so we are all waiting to see how they will step up the game.
In terms of specs, the new phones will feature a 5.8- and 6.2-inch Super AMOLED displays with QHD+ resolution, 64GB of internal storage, stereo speakers by AKG, and the same battery capacity as their predecessors. Notably, the S9 Plus will have a dual-lens camera with OIS (F1.5/F2.4) and 6GB of RAM while the S9 will have a single lens and just 4GB of RAM.
Both phones feature Gigabit LTE technologies called 4X4 MIMO, carrier aggregation and 256 QAM, and they will give the Galaxy S9 a 20% boost in peak speed over their predecessors.
Besides, you will get different processors depending on the market. Some models will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 while some others will have the Samsung Exynos 9 Series 9810 SoC. The two processors have different specs but similar performance on this phone. Although the Snapdragon 845 chip features 4K HDR video capture, it is not supported on both Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus.
All of the new Galaxy phones are manufactured in Vietnam, China, and Korea, and they are ready for launch. The model numbers of Galaxy S9 start with SM-G960 while those of S9 Plus start with SM-G965. If you are in the United States, you will receive the SM-G960U, SM-G960U1, SM-G965U, or SM-G965U1. There are a lot of other model numbers for the Asia and Europe markets, let’s check out all the differences.

I have a sim-free BlackBerry DTEK60 Model BBA 100-2 in the UK running Android 6.0.1 and am looking to upgrade to the S9. Apparently my DTEK60 has a max processor speed and core speed of 2.15 GHz, whereas the S9’s max processor and core speeds are only 1.3GHz.
Does that mean that the S9 will be slower than my existing DTEK60? Significantly so it would seem?
D says
No. The S9 will most definitely be faster as it has a Snapdragon 845 compared to the DTEK60’s Snapdragon 820.
Don’t just look at the raw numbers. Think of the digital camera megapixel race. 24 megapixels does not mean the photo quality is better than a 12 megapixel camera.
Davd says
The Snap dragon is an octa core processor meaning the C.P.U. has 8 cores that run at 1.3GHz

Can I purchace a global unlocked s9 plus and use it in USA ? If so how ,and what are the advantages?
AK says
You will not be able to use any carrier specific features, like WiFi calling, VoLTE etc. Also Samsung Pay won’t work.
I tried it w/S8+ dual sim and it wasn’t worth the trouble.
Tim says
Do people ever use the carrier specific stuff. Isn’t it usually bloated garbage?? I would love to get the decently sized 128 or 256 gb S9+ but it looks like it will not work cleaning in the U.S. Is this correct?
Vahagn Andryan says
I bought 256GB SM-9650/SD.., I don’t have 4g/LTE, it’s always H or H+, I don’t have wifi calling, Samsung pay…(AT&T), but the phone itself is amazing. I’m in LA CA.

Could you confirm that I’m not able to update the US model here in the Netherlands. (Statement of Samsung NL, due to different band withs)
Best regards

not True. The China Version has Dual Sim an 845

This shows the unlocked US version (SM-G965UZKAXAA; black) is capable of 4G FDD LTE but not 4G TDD LTE. Is this correct, or an oversight? Even the Verizon US version is showing capable of both.
Tuan Do says
My bad, I’ve updated the bands for the unlocked US version.
Sean N says
Ahh, whew! Thanks… :) I was hoping it was just an oversight – but ready to cancel my reservation if not!!
avr says
I noticed that the Sprint US version mentions a few CDMA bands that are not listed for the unlocked US version 3G UMTS:B4(AWS) and 3G CDMA:BC10(800).
And similarly the unlocked US version mentions support for 4G FDD LTE:B18(800), B19(800), B29(700), B66(AWS-3) and 4G TDD LTE:B46(2500) whereas the Sprint US version does not.
Is this correct?
Pat says
Interes
That’s my fear. Not working with the older 3g sprint that i fall back on occasionally.
Also sprint doesn’t use native VoLte yet, but a jerry rigged voip while they work on a custom VoLte backend. So I’m betting the unlocked version doesn’t do that
Its all the same radio right? Come on, and make them truly unlockable and portable.

There are models with 128GB and 256 GB, is there a way to differentiate them from the 64GB ones?
Is there a way I can find one that is mid night black with 256GB in Canada? they only offer it in purple & titanium with only 64GB.

There is a double mounting / loading tray for the SIM and additional SD files storage / memory card on the UK specification SM-G960F Samsung Galaxy S9. Access by opening the door / port on the top edge of the S9. Check placement of the cards – which slot on the tray is for the SIM, which is for the additional SD card. Be careful putting the tray back in – it will slide down correctly facing only one way – so remember which way it was turned when you took the tray out.
In phone settings format the SD card. It may also be possible for you to Encrypt the SD card from an option in the Settings menu so that it can only be read on that phone – a good security measure for while you are using that phone?

Hi there,

Is there anyway I can get LTE sign or do I need to enable any band on my phone. Please advise. Thank you

Check your apn setting for the carrier, also sometimes changing sim cards in between CDMA network and GSM network locks up the phone, you need WiFi access then and go to software update on settings see it’s registering back to network with the last sim you put in.

Richard says
I purchased the SM-G965F (“International” version) S9+, identified above as for Europe, with dual sim, 128 GB, at a good price on Amazon. It works fine, and passes all the Samsung Members app hardware tests. My understanding is it’s not compatible with U.S. (or other) CDMA carriers — but that’s not a big deal for me. It also does appear to be incompatible with Samsung Pay (as a previous poster noted), but works fine with Google Pay (so to me not a big deal). A bigger deal is that it does not have the wifi calling option feature that I had on my previous U.S.-version S8+ (which worked excellent with my reseller carrier, Simple Mobile). (I’m not sure if it defaults to permit wifi calling even without an option to configure it explicitly as is apparently possible on the U.S. version). Is there a way to test this conclusively? If anyone else has encountered the lack of wifi-calling configuration and it concerns them, I would be interested in any insights or workarounds (compatible with Simple Mobile) — including links or narrative for detailed instructions, if available. Many thanks!
