If you are traveling on a business trip and still need access to a printer, obviously you can’t bring a bulky printer with you or use public ones at your hotels, especially when you have to print confidential documents. You will need to get yourself a portable printer and fortunately, there are more options at affordable prices out there. In this post, we’re checking out the HPRT MT800 2.0 Thermal Transfer Portable Printer.

Features & Performance
The HPRT MT800 2.0 has a very compact and lightweight design. If you are traveling, you can easily put it in your bag, backpack, or carry-on suitcase. It weighs less than 3 lbs and I really appreciate that it comes with a hard carrying case, a charging cable, and an extra thermal ribbon.
The printer already comes pre-installed with a ribbon inside, so you can start printing immediately. Each ribbon can print up to 45 pages and you can buy a set of 2 ribbons for just over $20. Unlike thermal printers that I used to print shipping labels, the HPRT can print on glossy papers. They recommend using their own glossy paper for the best printing quality, you can buy a 50-sheet ream for $10. If you add the cost of paper and ribbon, each print would cost over $0.40. This is obviously more expensive than traditional printers or public services, however, you will get the convenience of printing from your hotel room and of course, you can be confident that your documents are safe.
It is quite easy to set up the printer. You can set it up with your smartphone or connect it to your laptop. It took me just a few minutes to start printing the first page. The printing speed can’t be compared with inkjet printers and you will need to insert each page manually. It can print letter papers in black and white color only. It has a built-in 2,000mAh battery and you can print up to 70 pages in one charge.
The printing quality is fairly good, especially when you use it to print simple content with text only. Overall, I think this is a good portable printer. Although its price is expensive and you will have to buy some supplies, it is suitable for business travelers who don’t want to use public printers with security risks.

Was a little hesitant to buy this but I needed a very small mobile printer. This was a good decision.
A couple of important facts:
1. It works on my Android cell phone
2. It works on my iPad (miracle of miracles)
3. it takes standard U.S. 8 1/2″ X 11″ printer paper (as well as the A4 size)
Took a while to get everything going. Had to download their printing app – one for my cellphone and one for my Apple iPad. That worked O.K. But getting the printer connected to my systems took a bit of fiddling.
Another quirky feature of the printer is that if you want to print a document you don’t do it from the document. You do it from the MT800 printer app. You have to search for your document from within the printer app – and that also took some fiddling for me to successfully perform.
The info I found on the Amazon webpage for the printer led me to believe that the printer might not yet be able to print from my iPad. Well it can – and does so just fine. Which is REALLY a plus for me.
This printer will solve a problem for me of needing to print a document far away from any desktop printer.
