How to Make a Photo Gift CD with Picasa

Pre-requisite

1. Picasa from Google
2. Atleast one Album or collection of photos to make as a Gift CD/DVD.
3. Pictures arranged in the preferred order if you desire to make slide-show in CD/DVD.

Picasa is developed as an cross-platform application which is available on Mac, Linux and Windows operating systems. Check the below link and follow it to get your corresponding Picasa. Note that Picasa for linux is out-dated and the latest version of Picasa 3.9 which is released just a day back is not supported for linux. Get Picasa here.

Step-by-Step Procedure

Step 1: Download and install Picasa.

Step 2: Start Picasa in your system and for the first time users, a dialog box will appear to import pictures from your system folders. Perform the import operations and create albums.

Step 3: Select the Album you would like to make a Gift CD/DVD.

Step 4: Album being selected, in the Menu Bar of picasa click on “Create” menu.

Step 5: Under Create menu select “Create a Gift CD“.

Step 7: You can also check on Slide-show option to create slideshow in Gift CD/DVD.

Step 8: Give your Gift CD/DVD a name in the text area labeled as “CD Name” (Name the Gift CD pane).

Step 9: Insert a Blank CD/DVD and click on Burn Disc to start burning your gift CD.

Now you can beautifully pack it and gift it to your desired loved ones.

Compatibility

Creating a Gift CD/DVD from a MAC system will work on both Linux and Windows but however creating a Gift CD/DVD authored from a Windows PC will not work in MAC.

So before creating Gift CD/DVD, please verify what operating system does the recipient of the Gift CD/DVD runs.

On DVD Players

While Gift CD/DVDs created using Picasa are compatible to play in PC’s, a separate authoring software will be needed to create CD/DVD’s capable of being viewed in most DVD players.

Note: Once you have burned the Disc , it is not possible to to add more photos or change the settings in the Disc. If you need to add more photos you need to create a new one using a new CD/DVD. So be cautious while making your settings and verify the settings before burning the Disc.
