I’ll take a cut-out over a notch. A pop-up camera is nice in theory but, more moving parts means a higher risk of failure. It’s a weak point. Plus, you get less protection from a case. I do wish that they moved the camera up a little higher so that you would lose less screen if you decided to black it out… The only reason they have it down so far is so that they could wrap so screen around it, making it technically “not a notch”.. But let’s be real, it’s a notch lol. It’s smaller, and off to the side, but it’s a notch..

A pop-up camera would either use battery for the motor or, if without a motor, would need a spring-loaded mechanism that required the user to push it back after use. Neither solution seems better than the chosen cut-out to me.

Of course, if we didn’t live in an age of exhibitionism and narcissism, we’d scarcely need a front camera anyway.
