If you own a Cosori air fryer, you may need to hold off on using it for now. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just issues a recall for approximately two million Cosori air fryer models due to the devices getting too hot and posing a risk of melting or catching fire. Some of them have been available since 2018, and others were available through December 2022, with prices ranging from around $70 to $130.
The CPSC has received over 200 reports of the air fryers overheating, melting, or catching fire, leading to ten reports of minor burn injuries and 23 reports of minor property damage. The different models come in various colors and price points, with some examples including CP158-AF, CAF-P581-BUSR, CS158-AF, CO137-AF, CO158-AF, and CP258-AF.
Cosori is a U.S.-based appliance maker owned by China-based Vesync Corporation. The Atekcity Corporation, based in Anaheim, Calif., is the importer of the product, which has a faulty wire connection that can overheat, posing a risk of burns and fires. The company has received 205 reports of the air fryers catching fire, burning, melting, overheating, and smoking. Of those reports, ten mentioned minor burns, while almost 20 indicated minor property damage. The product was sold at various retailers, including Best Buy, Target, The Home Depot, Amazon, Walmart, etc. The air fryers were available in a range of sizes and colors, including black, gray, white, blue, or red.
While approximately two million air fryers were sold in the United States, 250,000 more were sold in Canada, and 21,000 in Mexico, according to the CPSC. If you own one of the recalled devices, you can start the recall process by visiting the website or emailing [email protected]. The company is not issuing cash refunds but promises to replace the air fryer with another Cosori device. If you don’t keep the receipt, you can claim it as a gift; You’ll just need to have the product because it is required to submit some pictures of the recalled devices with the cord cut off to receive a replacement.
I used the CP158-AF for over 3 years and fortunately had no problem with it. The replacement claiming process is quite easy and can be done online on Cosori’s website. I just filled in my information, address, batch number, and took 3 pictures from different angles of the air fryer. You can choose the same air fryer or other products as replacements. The website told me they will review my registration within 5 business days and I can expect the replacement within 1 month.
