Robot vacuums have become so popular in many households nowadays, however, they just can clean the floor. Therefore we still need a cordless stick vacuum as its companion; I often use my stick vacuum to clean furniture and places that the robot couldn’t reach. Besides, stick vacuums are often more powerful and can clean carpets better. You don’t need to spend too much for a stick vacuum as there are many affordable options out there. Shunzao is a startup backed by Xiaomi and they have already released some other vacuums in China. The Shunzao S9 is their only vacuum available in the US right now. It comes in a compact box, including essential accessories like a crevice nozzle, a 2-in-1 brush, an extension tube, a docking station, and a floor brush. The only thing missing is the mini motorized tool which is helpful for cleaning mattress or upholstery.

The product comes with a detachable 2,500mAh battery. You will just need to slide the battery in, attach the tube and floor brush to start cleaning. The vacuum has a display on the back and only one button to switch between 3 power modes – Eco, Standard, and Turbo. The standard mode is my preferred one because it provides decent suction while the battery life is still long enough to clean the whole floor. The battery life could reach 60 minutes in Eco mode, 25 minutes in standard, and 10 minute in turbo mode.

I really like the motorized floor head; It is easy to navigate with big wheels and LED light, it is flexible and you even can turn it on one side to make the tube stay almost flat on the floor. This is useful when you need to clean under sofa, bed, or other low-clearance furniture. The head is more suitable for cleaning hard floors.

Another advantage of the vacuum is its lightweight design. The total weight of the vacuum with attached tube and floor head is just over 6 lbs. Besides, I don’t need to hold the trigger while vacuuming. This makes the whole vacuuming process less of a burden. The Shunzao comes with a large 0.75l dustbin and I can empty it with simply a press of a button. I can also wash the whole bin and its filters, so even the HEPA filter doesn’t need to be replaced anytime soon.

Despite being a budget stick vacuum, the Shunzao S9 is powered by a 320W brushless motor which delivers 25 KPa suction. It is good enough to pick up dirt on the floor and I rarely use those vacuums at maximum power.
